Specifications are transcribed from the linked manufacturer sources and reviewed on the date shown. Check the exact SKU, system certification, software compatibility, operating requirements, thermals and power before using these values in a BOM.
Confirm codecs, resolution, frame rate, streams per server and the combined decode, model and encode pipeline. Compare throughput and watts per stream on the exact system.
Check model format, usable VRAM, context length, KV cache, concurrent requests, first-token latency and token throughput. Weight memory alone is not a fit guarantee.
Review model strategy, memory, multi-GPU interconnect, storage/checkpoint traffic, framework support and collective performance on the target node.
Check the solver's supported GPU, precision requirements, MPI/runtime, memory per case, vendor validation guidance and scaling behavior.
Match the exact workstation/server edition to application certification, display/render requirements, cooling, slot, power and driver needs.
Separate software-level sharing, queues and container limits from hardware-backed GPU partitioning. Verify the feature on the selected SKU.
No one GPU is best for every video task. Test codec support, input mix, model size, stream count, latency and encode/decode concurrency together.
| Model | Manufacturer-listed video features | Planning checks | Official source |
|---|---|---|---|
| L4 | 24 GB memory, 72 W TDP, 2 NVENC and 4 NVDEC engines. | Low-profile single-slot form factor; validate codec, stream count, server airflow, model memory and end-to-end latency. | NVIDIA L4 specifications |
| L40S | 48 GB GDDR6 ECC, 864 GB/s, 350 W, 3 NVENC and 3 NVDEC; AV1 encode/decode support. No MIG or NVLink for this model. | Passive dual-slot card; confirm host airflow, power, video pipeline and required GPU sharing behavior. | NVIDIA L40S specifications |
| RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition | 96 GB GDDR7 ECC, 1,597 GB/s, up to 600 W configurable; 9th-generation NVENC and 6th-generation NVDEC. | Confirm exact air or liquid-cooled system design, codec profile, thermals, power and runtime support. | NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Server Edition |
Engine counts and capabilities are manufacturer specifications; actual pipeline throughput depends on codecs, presets, resolution, model and server configuration.
Approximate parameter weight memory = parameter count × bytes per parameter. The values below use decimal GB and assume one stored value per parameter.
| Parameter count | FP32 (4 bytes) | FP16 / BF16 (2 bytes) | INT8 (1 byte) | INT4 (0.5 byte) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 billion | 28 GB | 14 GB | 7 GB | 3.5 GB |
| 70 billion | 280 GB | 140 GB | 70 GB | 35 GB |
This estimate excludes KV cache, activations, framework/runtime buffers, quantization scales and metadata, fragmentation, reserved memory and other processes. Quantized formats do not always use exactly the nominal bit count. A model fitting by weight size alone does not guarantee startup, target context length, concurrency or performance.
For NVIDIA NIM profiles, the model profile guidance explains the relevant runtime memory considerations. Review its current release alongside the chosen model.
Include model/version, format, context, concurrency, codecs, software versions, power/cooling and target performance. Unknowns can be marked for evaluation.
